Step 1
Preheat the oven to 375°F, about 10 minutes, and butter a 9 inch baking dish.
Step 2
Peel, core and slice 6 medium apples, then toss them in the dish with 2 tbsp of the brown sugar and 0.5 tsp of the cinnamon.
Step 3
Melt 0.5 cup butter in the microwave, about 45 seconds, until fully liquid with no lumps.
Step 4
Stir 0.5 cup flour, 0.5 cup oats, the remaining 6 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon and 0.25 tsp salt into the butter until it clumps like wet sand.
Step 5
Squeeze the crumble into clumps with your fingers and scatter it evenly over the apples.
Step 6
Bake 35-40 minutes until the topping is deep golden and the juices bubble thickly at the edges.
Step 7
Rest 10 minutes until the bubbling settles, then serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar if you have it.
