Send Missing Ingredients to the Instacart® App

When a recipe needs something your kitchen doesn't have, Custrd can hand it to the Instacart® app: one ingredient, or the whole list. You choose the store and check out in your own Instacart account. Custrd never places an order for you.

How It Works

  1. Open a recipe. Custrd shows which ingredients you already have in your Kitchen and which you're missing.
  2. Tap “Order on Instacart”. Use it on a single ingredient, or send your whole shopping List at once.
  3. Shop in the Instacart app. Your items open ready to shop. Pick a store, review the items and check out there.

What Custrd Sends to Instacart

  • One ingredient: its name, opened as an Instacart search.
  • A whole list: each item's name and amount, the list's title and, for a recipe, its photo. Instacart returns a shopping-list page for those items; the link expires after 30 days.
  • Nothing personal: no name, email address, location or payment details, and no connection to your Instacart account.

What Happens at Checkout

Everything after the hand-off happens in Instacart, in your own account and under Instacart's terms: the store you shop from, the products you choose, prices, fees and delivery. Custrd does not place, pay for or change your order.

Where It Works

The hand-off works wherever the Instacart service operates, which is the United States and Canada. Everywhere else, missing ingredients can still be added to your Custrd shopping List.

Groceries and Kitchen Tools

Custrd handles a recipe's shopping in two parts. Ingredients go to the Instacart® app, as described here. Equipment — a skillet, a thermometer — opens an Amazon search instead; see kitchen tools. Custrd places no orders on either.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an Instacart account?
Yes. Custrd opens the Instacart app (or instacart.com) with your items ready; shopping and checkout happen in your own Instacart account, under Instacart's terms.
Does Custrd place the order for me?
No. Custrd never places, pays for or changes an order. It hands your ingredients to Instacart; you choose the store, review the items and check out yourself.
Can I send a whole recipe at once?
Yes. Send a single ingredient from a recipe, or send your whole shopping list from the List. A whole list opens in Instacart as one shopping-list page with every item on it.
What does Custrd share with Instacart?
Only what is needed to build the list: ingredient names and amounts, the list's title and, for a recipe, its photo. Custrd does not send your name, email address, location or payment details, and it does not connect to your Instacart account.
Where is this available?
Wherever the Instacart service operates, which is the United States and Canada. Elsewhere, missing ingredients can still go to your Custrd shopping List.
Is Custrd affiliated with Instacart?
No. Custrd is not endorsed by or affiliated with Instacart. Instacart is a registered trademark of Maplebear Inc., d/b/a Instacart.
