Instructions

  1. Step 1

Season the 1.5 lb flank steak with salt and pepper on both sides. Heat 1 tbsp of the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high until shimmering.

  2. Step 2

Sear the steak for 4-5 minutes per side until deeply browned. Transfer to a plate and set aside.

  3. Step 3

Reduce heat to medium. Add the remaining 1 tbsp olive oil, 1 sliced onion, and 2 minced garlic cloves. Cook, stirring, until soft and golden, about 5 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Pour in 1 cup tomato sauce and 1/2 cup beef broth. Scrape up any browned bits. Return the steak to the skillet, nestling it into the sauce.

  5. Step 5

Cover and simmer over low heat until the steak is tender and the sauce has thickened slightly, about 20-25 minutes. The steak should be fork-tender.

  6. Step 6

Meanwhile, cook 1 cup white rice according to package directions. Slice 4 radishes thinly.

  7. Step 7

Slice the steak against the grain. Serve over the rice, spoon the sauce on top, and garnish with radish slices, fresh cilantro, and a lemon wedge if you have them.
