Instructions

  1. Step 1

In a large bowl, mix 2 cups flour, 1 tsp yeast, 1 tbsp sugar, and 1/2 tsp salt. Gradually add 3/4 cup warm water, stirring until a dough forms.

  2. Step 2

Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled, about 30 minutes.

  3. Step 3

While the dough rises, finely shred 2 cups cabbage. Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and stir-fry the cabbage until wilted and lightly browned, about 5 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Remove the skillet from heat and stir 1 tbsp soy sauce into the cabbage. Let the filling cool completely.

  5. Step 5

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 4-inch circle, then place a spoonful of cabbage filling in the center.

  6. Step 6

Gather the edges of the dough over the filling and pinch to seal. Place each bun seam-side down on a small square of parchment paper.

  7. Step 7

Steam the buns over boiling water in a covered steamer for 12 minutes, until puffed and cooked through. Serve warm.
