Instructions

  1. Step 1

In a large bowl, mix 2 cups flour, 1 tsp yeast, and 3 tbsp sugar. Gradually add 3/4 cup warm milk and 1 tbsp oil, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.

  2. Step 2

Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  3. Step 3

Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then use your fingers to pinch one end to form a slight point, creating a peach shape.

  4. Step 4

Place the shaped buns on small squares of parchment paper. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise for 30 minutes, until puffy and slightly enlarged.

  5. Step 5

Mix 2 drops red food coloring with 1 tsp water. Using a small brush, lightly paint the bottom half of each bun to create a blush effect.

  6. Step 6

Mix 1 drop green food coloring with 1 tsp water. Brush a small leaf shape on the top point of each bun, or use a tiny piece of dough tinted green.

  7. Step 7

Steam the buns in a steamer over boiling water for 12 minutes. Do not lift the lid during steaming. After 12 minutes, turn off heat and let sit for 5 minutes before opening.

  8. Step 8

Serve warm or at room temperature. These buns are best enjoyed the same day.
