Step 1
Preheat oven to 375°F. Cook the 12 oz macaroni in salted boiling water until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
Step 2
Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
Step 3
Add 1 lb ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up, until browned and no longer pink, about 8 minutes. Season with 1 tsp salt.
Step 4
Stir in 24 oz tomato sauce and 1 tsp dried oregano. Simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Taste and adjust salt if needed.
Step 5
Combine the cooked macaroni with the meat sauce in a large bowl. Stir well to coat every piece.
Step 6
Transfer the mixture to a 9x13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle 2 cups shredded mozzarella evenly over the top.
Step 7
Bake for 20 minutes, until bubbly and the cheese is melted and golden. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
