Instructions

  1. Step 1

In a large bowl, mix 2 cups flour, 1 tsp yeast, and 1 tbsp sugar. Gradually add 3/4 cup warm water, stirring until a dough forms.

  2. Step 2

Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.

  3. Step 3

Meanwhile, combine 1/2 lb ground pork, 2 chopped green onions, and 1 tbsp soy sauce in a bowl. Mix well and set aside.

  4. Step 4

Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle about 4 inches wide.

  5. Step 5

Place a spoonful of the pork mixture in the center of each circle. Gather the edges and pinch to seal, forming a bun.

  6. Step 6

Arrange the buns in a bamboo steamer lined with parchment paper, leaving space between them. Cover and let rise for 20 minutes.

  7. Step 7

Bring water to a boil in a wok or pot. Place the steamer over the boiling water, cover, and steam for 15 minutes until the buns are puffed and cooked through.

  8. Step 8

Remove from heat and let rest for 2 minutes before serving warm.
